Salary and super calculator
A salary only includes super when the ad says so. “Plus super” means the figure is your base salary and your employer pays super on top, at 12% since 1 July 2025. “Package”, “including super” or “TRP” means super is already inside the number, so your base is the package divided by 1.12. Enter the advertised figure below to see the base salary, the super and the total package side by side, so two job ads compare like for like.
The figure in the job ad or offer, in AUD.
An estimate at the 12% super guarantee rate (from 1 July 2025), checked against the ATO on 31 October 2026. General information, not financial advice.
Worked example
A $95,000 package including super is $95,000 ÷ 1.12 = $84,821 base salary, plus $10,179 super. A role at $90,000 plus super pays $90,000 base and $10,800 super, $100,800 in total. So the “$90,000 + super” ad pays $5,179 more base salary than the “$95,000 package”, even though its headline number is lower.
How the calculator works
- Plus super: base = the figure; super = 12% of the base; total = base + super.
- Package: base = package ÷ 1.12; super = package − base.
- Above $270,830 of base salary (2026–27 maximum contribution base), super is capped at 12% of $270,830.
- Results are rounded to whole dollars. Rates checked against the ATO on 31 October 2026.
It’s an estimate: super is paid on qualifying earnings, so overtime, allowances and salary sacrifice to other benefits can change the real amount. For what else a “package” can include, see Related below. Contracting? Try the day rate calculator.
Questions
Does salary include super?
Not unless the ad says so. "$90,000 + super" means a $90,000 base with super paid on top. "Package", "including super" or "TRP" means super is inside the figure. A figure with no qualifier is ambiguous: ask before you compare offers.
How do I work out base salary from a package?
Divide the package by 1.12. A $95,000 package is about $84,821 base plus $10,179 super. Super is about 10.7% of a package (12 ÷ 112).
What is the super guarantee rate?
12% since 1 July 2025, according to the ATO. From 1 July 2026 it is worked out on qualifying earnings: ordinary time earnings plus some other payments, such as commissions, but generally not overtime.
Is there a maximum amount of super my employer must pay?
Yes. For 2026–27 the maximum contribution base is $270,830 of qualifying earnings a year, so the compulsory super stops at about $32,500. An employer can pay more, and an award or agreement may require it.
Does this calculator work out tax or take-home pay?
No. It splits a salary into base and super only. For take-home pay, use the ATO’s simple tax calculator or your employer’s payslip.
